Desert DraconidsWe recently told you a little bit about the Draconids meteor shower that peaked earlier this week. Here is a composite image that Sean Parker Photography came up with from this year’s event.Sean was shooting in the Gates Pass scenic area west of Tucson, Arizona (US). Gates Pass is known as a great place to view sunsets, but as Sean shows, it provides a nice backdrop for astrophotography as well. The conditions weren’t great, but there was a window of a little over an hour when skies were clear to the north.Sean picked five images from his time lapse sequence that had meteors in them and composed them into a single image. He lit the foreground using his headlamp for the final exposure to show some of the fall color as it begins to show on cacti in the Sonoran Desert. The orange glow beyond the mountains is light pollution from Phoenix, AZ, some 113 (182 miles) miles away.Equipment and settings:Canon 5D MK II Canon 16-35mm @16mmf/430 second exposuresISO 1000-JFImage credit: Sean Parker PhotographyFacebookHomepage & Prints View high resolution
